The North Hertfordshire Local Plan recently agreed locations to the north and east of the town to provide up to 3,300 much needed homes which will be supported by new facilities and infrastructure.
Urban&Civic – the UK’s leading Master Developer – is now pulling together the plans for how the development, which is on land owned by Hertfordshire County Council, will come forward. They want to share their early thoughts, but also to listen to the thoughts and ideas of those living in and around the town as well as any concerns or challenges.
Rebecca Britton, Communities and Partnerships lead for Urban&Civic said:
“We know there have been a lot of discussions to date about the right way of growing Baldock to meet the demands for homes and facilities, but also to protect the things that make it special, and particularly the identity of the communities around Baldock.
“We are right at the start of the process at looking at how the identified sites can deliver the shared aspiration we have for quality homes and buildings, well supported by the facilities they and the town need, set within a nature-rich landscape, and effectively connected to maximise walking and cycling, with support for public transport use to manage the impact on the local road network; creating a genuinely sustainable place to live.”
Urban&Civic is taking forward the development of land owned by Hertfordshire County Council to the north and east of Baldock, and it is currently envisaged the 527 acre site will support an extension of the town with:
- up to 3,300 much-needed new homes in a wide range of sizes and tenures;
- around 600,000sq ft of new employment space;
- a new country park;
- community facilities, shops and services;
- a new secondary school, two primary schools and a special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) school:
- new parks, green space and play areas;
- public transport and new cycle and walking connections, alongside investment in local road infrastructure.
The events are taking place at Baldock Arts and Heritage Centre, in the Thomas Pryor Theatre, on:
- Saturday 25th March, 10am-2pm
- Wednesday 29th March, 12 – 8pm

“This is just the first of many chances people will have to keep inputting to the evolving plans, but it is a great opportunity to set out both worries and concerns, as well as aspirations and existing issues which the development can help to resolve. The team will then spend the next few months working through this feedback and come back to share more detailed plans as we develop them later this year.”
