Last night (Tuesday 16 June) saw the next milestone for the future growth of Baldock with the approval of the Growing Baldock Strategic Masterplan by North Herts Council.
The Masterplan sets out a framework for the delivery of up to 3,200 homes, associated schools, health and community facilities, employment space and green space, transport interventions and investment. It includes the vision and key principles for the areas to be developed, and how they will work with the existing town and surrounding villages.
The Full Council meeting passed the Masterplan with overwhelming approval.
Paul Mumford, Director for Growing Baldock Masterdeveloper Urban&Civic, said :
“Last night was an important moment for the Growing Baldock project: we have been working hard with North Herts Council officers and councillors, local communities and key stakeholders over the last two years to progress these plans to ensure Baldock grows sustainably and in a way that works with the town and surrounding villages. This will deliver the much-needed homes set out in the Local Plan, alongside the facilities, green spaces and transport connections which will be key to growing this important historic town well.”
The next steps for the plans will be to progress to an Outline Planning Application. The team will be holding a series of consultations with residents in July to share the latest plans being progressed for submission later in the year.
The dates of the consultation are :
- 10am-2pm on Saturday, 12 July at Baldock Community Centre (SG7 6HD)
- 3pm-8pm on Wednesday, 16 July at St Mary’s Church Hall, Baldock (SG7 5AD)
- 1pm- 6pm on Friday, 18 July at St Mary’s Church Hall, Baldock (SG7 5AD)
There will also be an online consultation running from Saturday 12 July to Monday 18 August 2025, with the same material that will be available to view at the drop-in events.
