Local communities are being invited to find out more and share their thoughts on the latest plans for Growing Baldock before an outline planning application is submitted to North Herts Council later this year.

Following early engagement with local partners, stakeholders and communities in 2023, and ongoing discussions, master developer Urban&Civic has used feedback and the results of further studies to inform a Strategic Masterplan and key principles which will underpin the plans to grow Baldock.

The consultation will include three drop-in events, so you can find out more and talk through the proposals with members of the project team:

  • 10am-2pm on Saturday, 12 July at Baldock Community Centre (SG7 6HD)
  • 3pm-8pm on Wednesday, 16 July at St Mary’s Church Hall, Baldock (SG7 5AD)
  • 1pm to 6pm on Friday, 18 July at St Mary’s Church Hall, Baldock (SG7 5AD)

There will also be an online consultation running from Saturday 12 July to Monday 18 August 2025, with the same material that will be available to view at the drop-in events.

Paul Mumford, Project Director for Urban&Civic, said: “The growth of Baldock town has been discussed for a number of years, with the team drawing everything together over the last couple of years; engaging people about what that starts to look like on the ground in terms of schools, health and other community facilities to support the homes; protecting existing local green spaces and providing new ones; and making sure future transport plans work for existing and future residents.

“Critical to all the discussions to date has been the need to weave the new development in with the existing town and its surrounding villages, while ensuring the right amenities come forward at the right time. We will be testing out if we’ve got that balance right in the consultation events, and look forward to discussions with local residents, stakeholders and partners.”

This consultation is a key part of checking and finalising the plans for Growing Baldock before an outline planning application is submitted. This will then be assessed and considered by North Herts Council, following further consultation with a range of stakeholders and local communities.

Subject to outline planning consent and further detailed planning applications, the new homes and amenities will be delivered over the next 15 years, with work expected to start in 2027 and the first people moving in around 2028.
